The Prevalence of Humanity - 1662 Words
ââ¬Å"The defects of society [can be traced] back to the defects of human nature ... The shape of a society must depend on the ethical nature of the individual and not on any political system however apparently logical or respectable.â⬠This idea, quoted from author William Golding, of a corrupt individual corrupting an otherwise idyllic society is exemplified many times over the course of human history: Joseph Stalin corrupts Karl Marxs idea of communism into a totalitarian government that eventually results in the death of tens of millions of his own people; Hitler uses the muse of a workers government that would lift Germany out of the clasps of the Great Depression to rise to power so that he could fulfil his dreams of brutallyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦To further research this question, the similar transitions of government and the similarities in the new authority figures displayed in Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies must be considered. Its time some people knew theyve got to keep quiet and leave deciding things to the rest of us.â⬠(Golding 110-111) The taking away of rights and freedom has proven to be a surefire way of assuring a deadly totalitarian government and a longer reign for the leaders. Th is is explicit in the leaderships of Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin, and their use of private police squads to frighten people into supporting them. The transition of governments from socialist (Animal Farm) and democratic (Lord of theShow MoreRelatedEssay about Medieval Art in a Modern World632 Words à |à 3 Pagesfrom the Middle Ages in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (medieval wing), one in particular caught my attention.
